One Inch Of Love Live | P O L Y P A L A
As a part of Back to Athens 2017, P O L Y P A L A stage a live performance of "One Inch Of Love" in CHEAPART gallery, a work entirely dedicated to nature.
With this first collaboration as Polypala, Andreas Polyzogopoulos (Trumpet) and George Palamiotis (Bass), invite the audience to travel and interpret time and space as they please.
Often, the melodies are harmonious, at times they are chaotic or occasionally have the simplicity of a breeze. Compositions unfold into the objective, (or even subjective), flow of time that we experience when present before a natural landscape, away from massive urban landscapes, within a "timeless" dream zone.
The titles of the music compositions refer to actual places, (Keros, Mt. Takao), to natural phenomena, (Apiary Wind, Solstice), or dreamy moments, (A Cloud Passes Behind The Moon, Trees Breathing By The Sea).
An afternoon in Lagada on Amorgos, the light in Nikouria at sunset, the shadow of the pines in Plato's Academy or the age-old trees of the sacred Takao Mountain just outside the bustling Tokyo, were among the reasons for these recordings.
Although it is clear that Polypala intend to create a timeless environment, without any reference to the advanced rhythms of the city, this is achieved using state-of-the-art sound technology, both during instrument and sound processing. After all, the cover composition of Japanese code artist Qubibi has been generated by programming and not designed by conventional means.
These contradictions emerge from the desire for a new musical "language" that will represent the unique archetypal qualities of the Greek landscape, beyond geographical or social limitations. Likewise, one could also distinguish the influences from the work of Harrold Budd or Brian Eno, (Apiary Wind); distant echoes of gamelan orchestras from Indonesia (Apiary (i) Lekong), as well as Gagaku orchestras from the period of the first emperors of Japan, (Mt. Takao).
"One Inch Of Love" music performance by P O L Y P A L A is part of the Back to Athens 5 International Arts Festival. Back to Athens was initiated 2012, its concept roots on the idea that cultural activity can bring on an entirely new outlook on the Athens City Center. Greek and international artists, art groups and curators are invited to perceive the city as an open field of action, but also as a setting in constant and rapid transformation. Back to Athens is an idea platform, a public showcase of contemporary art and expression, a meeting point for the art community in the heart of the city where creative potential is unleashed and ideas are realised.
